The Pratt City Library will host its holiday open house on Sunday, December 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event is free.
The event, known as "Coming Home for Christmas,'' holds a special meaning for library patrons, staff, and supporters in that it's the first time the library will host its holiday open house since being destroyed by a deadly tornado in 2011. The library reopened in February 2014.
"I feel encouraged and inspired by our upcoming open house and know that there will be many more to come,'' says Pratt City Library Branch Head Deborah Drake Blackmon. "Our library and our community are beautiful. This open house is our way of showing our appreciation for our community.''
The event will include:
- Birmingham Councilor Marcus Lundy overseeing the installation ceremony of six Pratt City area community members who've made a contribution to the area. Alabama Sen. Linda Coleman and former U.S. Congressman Earl F. Hilliard Sr. will be two of the six inductees.
- Smith Entertainment Inc. will perform.
- Neighborhood presidents and officers will be recognized.
Sunday's open house is one of several holiday events the library system has planned for December.
Also on December 7 at the Central Library, Birmingham storyteller Dolores Hydock will present A Christmas Memory at 3:00 p.m. in the Arrington Auditorium.
