Let Library Resources Help You Do-It-Yourself

by Mark Skinner, East Ensley Branch Library

If you’re looking to save some money, check out many of the DIY resources that are available at the library! The library has an incredible amount of resources that are available in print and online.

For small repairs around the house, or if you’re looking to improve your home or apartment, take a look at a few of these books available at branches throughout Birmingham. These books can provide how-to instruction for the moderately handy and give you many creative ideas on making your house or apartment look its best.

The Complete Outdoor Builder: From Arbors to Walkways
The Complete Guide to Sheds: Design & Build a Shed: Complete Plans, Step-by-Step How-To
100 Weekend Projects Anyone Can Do: Easy, Practical Projects Using Basic Tools and Standard Materials
Ultimate Weekend Improvements: Kitchen, Bath, Garden & Yard

Another great resource that is available online to library patrons is ChiltonLibrary. If you have a small repair to make or it's time for maintenance on your vehicle, ChiltonLibrary can save you money. It provides exclusive “photographs, diagnostics designed by instructors, step-by-step repair procedures, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) maintenance schedules, wiring diagrams, recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for automobiles and light trucks.”

These are just a few of the resources at the library that can help save you money. More importantly, it can be personally rewarding to accomplish and learn something new!
