Birmingham Public Library Hosts Photo Challenge for National Decorating Month

BPL is hosting a Photo Challenge for National Decorating Month. Post photos with the hashtag #BHM247.

The Birmingham Public Library is hosting a Photo Challenge during the month of April for our patrons. It kicked off last week.

This week’s challenge spotlights National Decorating Month. This is the perfect time to start a new home project or finish something on that to-do list.

You can share what your work looks like by posting on your personal social media page using the hashtag #BHM247.

Here are some resources to jump-start a new project:

Check out Michael’s Facebook page every Wednesday at noon for a fun family activity: https://www.facebook.com/Michaels/

Michael’s also has boredom busters videos for some home craft projects: https://www.michaels.com/boredombusters

Lowe’s is also offering a variety of how-to videos for DIY projects: https://www.lowes.com/nl/diy-projects-and-ideas/how-to

Heather McWilliams, branch manager for Smithfield Library, shared this easy-to-do home decorating project:

“I enjoy decorating and repainting furniture and would like to share my recipe for homemade chalk paint.”

Here’s what you need:

1 gallon of basic interior paint and 1 container of Plaster of Paris.

Pour your desired amount of paint into a bucket and sprinkle Plaster of Paris on top.

Mix together until you get a pancake batter consistency.

I use a small container because it’s easier to mix. You can always make another batch if you run out.

It usually takes 2 coats for full coverage.

In closing, remember to share a photo what you are working on by posting it onto your personal social media page with the hashtag #BHM247.
