2026 BPL Summer Reading Spotlight: Grow, Create and Explore at Inglenook Branch Library

Grow, create and explore over 200 Summer Reading programs happening during June and July at the Birmingham Public Library.  As part of our 2026 Summer Reading Spotlight series, we're highlighting the exciting opportunities available at each location.

Today we are focusing on events taking place at Inglenook Branch Library, which is hosting bi-weekly “Grow with Inglenook” programs through August that bring the community together through gardening, learning and hands-on crafts for all ages.

Unearth a Storytime

Tuesday, June 16 | 10 a.m.

Young readers and their caregivers are invited to enjoy an interactive story time filled with engaging books, songs and activities designed to spark imagination and build early literacy skills.

Adult Summer Reading: Color and Connect

June 10-12 | 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Adults can take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with this relaxing program that combines creativity, mindfulness and social connection. Participants are encouraged to unwind, color and connect with others in a welcoming environment.

Dinosaurs, Reactions and Explosions, Oh My!

Wednesday, June 10 | 1-2 p.m.

Get ready for an afternoon of scientific discovery as exciting experiments, fascinating reactions and prehistoric fun come together in this high-energy STEM program.

Grow with Inglenook

Bi-Weekly Sessions | 3-4 p.m.

One of Inglenook Branch's signature programs, Grow with Inglenook brings community members together through gardening, learning and hands-on experiences. Participants can explore topics related to plants, food access and sustainable growing practices while building connections with fellow gardeners and neighbors.

Crafty Thursday

June 11 and July 9 | 1-2 p.m.

Unleash your creativity during Crafty Thursday. Participants can enjoy hands-on projects while exploring new artistic techniques and creating something unique to take home.

Adventure Reel!

Friday, June 12 | Noon-1 p.m.

Grab some popcorn and settle in for an entertaining movie experience that promises fun and adventure for attendees.

Father’s Day Biscuits-n-Gravy Brunch

Thursday, June 18| 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Fathers, join Inglenook Branch for coffee, biscuits–n-gravy as we celebrate all of the fathers in our community!  

McWane Science Center

Wednesday, July 8 | 10-11 a.m.

Experience the excitement of hands-on science learning as educators from McWane Science Center bring interactive activities and demonstrations to the library.

Unearth a Tote Bag

Tuesday, July 14 | 10 a.m.

Adults are invited to personalize and decorate their own tote bag while expressing their creativity through this fun, hands-on craft program.

Crochet 101

July 1 and July 17 | 10 a.m.-Noon

Interested in learning a new hobby? Crochet 101 introduces participants to the basics of crochet in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Beginners are encouraged to attend.

Zumba

Thursday, July 23 | 10 a.m.

Get moving and have fun during this energetic Zumba class that combines fitness and dance for a workout that's both enjoyable and effective.

Unearth a Reel Story!

Friday, July 10 | Noon-1 p.m.

Enjoy another movie-themed afternoon as stories come to life on the screen in this family-friendly summer program.
