Avondale's Grand Re-opening Ceremony

The Avondale Branch of the Birmingham Public Library reopened this morning with official greetings from Mayor Bernard Kincaid and several other officials. Over 200 people attended the ceremony and reception. To see additional photographs of the ceremony click here .

Avondale Branch Back in Operation

The Avondale Branch Grand Re-opening Ceremony will take place at the library this Thursday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m. Open house will be held Sunday, April 2 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Come be a part of this exciting celebration.

Amnesty Week At BPL

National Library Week April 2-8 In celebration of National Library Week, April 2-8, the Birmingham Public Library is hosting an “Amnesty Week,” where patrons can bring in overdue materials without incurring the library fines. Patrons may bring in these materials and the coupon above to any Birmingham Public Library branch location on any day from April 2nd through the 8th and their fines will be waived.

Taxes, Taxes, Taxes

April 15th is just around the corner. Do you need help with your taxes, a copy of a tax form, or tax information? If so, the library can help As a service to the community, the Birmingham Public Library provides copies of current Federal and Alabama tax forms, instructions, and publications. Basic forms are available at most library locations; a more extensive collection of forms is available in the Government Documents Department in the Linn-Henley Building.

Holocaust Survivor Speaks March 22 at Central

Mr. Max Steinmetz was born in Romania. From 1941, at the age of 17 until 1945 when he was liberated by Allied Forces, he was forced into ghettos, incarcerated at Auschwitz, imprisoned at Birkenau and Dachau, and escaped from the German death march, seeking refuge in a farm house. This program is a part of Central's Brown Bag Lunch Program . The programs are held at 12:00 p.m. in the 3rd floor Arrington Auditorium of the Linn-Henley Building . The library provides beverages.
