Looking for fun activities to do from the comfort of home this week on a hot summer day or when stuck inside due to rainy weather? The Birmingham Public Library's 2021 Summer Learning Program has virtual programs for all ages this week.

Storytime with Avondale's Mrs. Eve   

 • Tails and Tales with Mrs. Eve, Tuesday, June 22, 8:00 a.m. Join Mrs. Eve as she shares two of her favorite world tales: A Cuban folktale, "The Barking Mouse," and a folktale from Asia, "The Mouse Bride."  Birmingham’s NBC 13 last year 2 spotlighted the popularity of Mrs. Eve's  virtual storytelling during the COVID-19 pandemic.



 • “Ask the Zoo!", Tuesday, June 22, 10:00 a.m. Join the Birmingham Zoo live for a virtual meet and greet with some of our ambassador animals! You’ll get the 3 chance to see our ambassadors up close and personal while learning about them and their counterparts in the wild. Registration is required.

 Mad About Magazines, Tuesday, June 22, 12:00 p.m. - If you're not using periodicals in your family history research, you're missing out on some great information. Find out what you can discover about your ancestors in the pages of a magazine.  

 • Tech Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 22 - Having trouble with your device? Working on a project and you're stuck on the next step? Join us for a live Tech Tuesday session and get your questions answered. Registration required. 

 • Wellness Wednesdays, June 23, 10:00 a.m. Looking to lose weight or stay in shape? Join us Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for a morning workout from the comfort of your home. Let’s get moving! 




 • Time for Tails: A Rascally Rabbit Tale, Wednesday, June 23, 8:00 a.m. - Hope on over to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society for this virtual program starring a bunny named Blue. Long ears and tall tales will have you singing along - and you might be surprised by what rabbits like to eat. 



 • Sharing Storytime, Wednesday, June 23, 12:00 p.m. - Join Ms. Chelsea for a storytime where we'll tell jokes and learn some fun animal facts!



 • "How the Library (Not the Prince) Saved Rapunzel", Thursday, June 24, 2:00 p.m. - Rapunzel is locked away in the tower and seems very sad. All of her friends try to reach her, but Rapunzel isn't very interested, and she certainly doesn't want a silly old prince to deal with. Then she receives a wonderful letter and everything changes!  This fun skit is an adaption on the book by Wendy Meddour and illustrated by Rebecca Ashdown.  

 •  A Whale of a Tail!, Friday, June 25, 12:00 p.m. - Enjoy this fun tail of "The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark"




 • Anytime Yoga by instructor Bridgette Rene,  Sunday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. This class offers beginner yoga instructional videos in which Rene will teach you how yoga exercises can create strength, awareness, and harmony in the body and mind. Enjoy the benefits from these beginner yoga instructional videos. All bodies are welcome. No experience is necessary.

In addition to these virtual programs, don’t forget to join BPL’s 14 craft activities this summer. Participants will learn how to make items such as leather bracelets, door hangers, animal masks, key chains, and animal bookmarks. Remember to swing by your local BPL branch and pick up “grab n go” kits containing supplies to create your craft a week before scheduled craft events.
