BPL 2023 Summer Reading Spotlight: Avondale Regional Library

 

Avondale Regional Library is hosting 25 Summer Reading Programs in June & July.

Nearly 250 activities for patrons of all ages kicked off this week as part of 2023 Summer Reading at  Birmingham Public Library locations across the city. Today's spotlight is on some of the 25 activities for toddlers, teens, young adults and seniors taking place at Avondale Regional Library.




Librarian Ellen Shade and storyteller Ms. Cas have selected some of their favorite special programs that patrons should check out, with details listed below. 

Youth

Let’s Get Together: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. –Wednesday, June 14, 10:30 a.m

 Circle up with storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Miss Corinne for a time of interactive tales and tunes. This all-ages youth program will have you toe-tapping and laughing along as we make a little music together." 24-hour advance registration appreciated. 

Let’s Get Together: Dance Discovery. –Thursday, June 29, 10:00 a.m. 

 A fun and interactive workshop is presented by Alabama Ballet. “The company dancers engage children in the basic history of ballet, dance terms and techniques while performing brief excerpts of work that showcase the depth and variety of the ballet repertoire.” 24-hour advance registration appreciated.

Come Together: Solve It! Teen Forensic Science Program –Thursday, June 29, 2:00 p.m. 

 This mystery requires science to crack the code. Join us as Dr. Beth Gardner, Forensic Science Professor in the Justice Sciences Department UAB shows the important role science plays in the everyday world we encounter. You won't believe your eyes! 24-hour advance registration appreciated.

All Ages

 “All Together Now” Tiny Art Show – Supply pick-up: Jun. 1-30. Exhibit: Starting July 5th. 

 Calling all artists – Join forces with artists throughout our community when you become part of our Tiny Art Show! Create your own painting with acrylic paints and a 3x3 canvas that we provide. Kits are available at the circulation desk beginning June 1, and final submissions are due by June 30. The resulting exhibit will be displayed in the library for the rest of the summer and be featured on our Facebook page. We can’t wait to see what you create! 

Adult

 Club Create: Paint Party – Wednesday, June 14, 2:00 p.m

Come together to create something new. Ms. Olivia will lead participants through a guided painting tutorial to create their own masterpieces. Supplies and instruction provided.
