Titusville Library Kicking Off 2024 Black History Programs on February 5
Embarking on a journey through time, the Titusville Black History Month Family Memory Wall is an initiative that seeks to uncover and celebrate the rich tapestry of familial narratives within our community. The objective of the Black History Month Family Memory Wall is to foster a deeper understanding of our roots.
During the week of February 5- 9, "Preservation of Heritage: Family History" provides a link between the past, present, and future. As a result, our stories, traditions, and experiences are preserved. Black History Month Family Memory Wall showcases the importance of safeguarding these treasures and aims to create a repository of shared memories for future generations.
The Titusville Black History Month Family Memory Wall provides a platform for individuals and families to contribute to a collective archive of our community's past. Through oral histories, photographs, documents, and artifacts, participants are encouraged to share the unique narratives that have shaped their family's legacy. This initiative celebrates diversity and creates a comprehensive historical record that reflects Titusville's multifaceted identity.
The Titusville Black History Month Family Memory Wall's success hinges on community engagement. Residents are invited to participate actively by contributing family stories, memorabilia, and insights. Organizing workshops and events will assist participants in preserving and sharing their histories, fostering a sense of unity and shared identity within the community.

Build Our Community Memory Wall
We will scan your originals and give participants back a digital copy to share with family and friends. We will use some of your scanned images to create our library’s community Memory Wall.

Find your (Titusville) roots and learn how to trace your family history with members of the Birmingham African American Genealogy Group (BAAGG, Inc)
“Legacies In Leadership” Wednesday, February 7, 10:00 a.m.-1:00p.m.
Conversations with Judge Carol Smitherman, former Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Dr. Geraldine Bell, Rev. Perry Goins and others sharing their roots, hobbies, and the paths they took to leadership in our city.
“Gone But Not Forgotten” - Thursday February 8, 3:00p.m. – 5:45 p.m.
Where are the bodies buried? Learn how to discover your ancestors through cemetery research with BAAGG, Inc. member Wanda Looney. Musical entertainment by cellist Ja’Nise D. Gentry
“Leaving A Legacy” - Friday, February 9, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
