In celebration of Smokey the Bear’s 80th birthday, Five Points West Regional Library has been hosting the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Forestry Service’s Smokey the Bear Reading Challenge. The competition ends on November 28.
Since October 1, kids in ages ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade have been reading books to earn badges and receive prizes. The goal is to challenge students to learn about wildfires and the environment – and familiarize themselves with the 80 years of Smokey the Bear.
Here’s how it works:
• Register at the Five Points West Branch Library.
• Read 3 books to spin for a prize.
• Read 5 books to enter your name for a chance to win a grand prize.
• Complete challenge activities provided by the USDA and US Forest Service.
For every 1- 2 per category, get a sticker or stamp. When you complete 1-2 for every category, get a Smokey bear badge & 1 “camp” prize while supplies last!
Every 3 stickers/stamps earn you 1 chance to try your luck at our claw machine for candy or a prize.
