Explore What's Happening at BPL September 15-19, 2025

The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) continues to offer exciting programs that go way beyond books. With 18 locations across the city, there’s always something to learn, discover, or enjoy for patrons of all ages, activities that reflect our mission to provide lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and community enjoyment.

This week’s Beyond Books spotlight includes a weeklong Papel Picado craft celebration at Southside Branch for Hispanic Heritage Month, a fun line dance class at North Birmingham Regional Library, a free online Fund My Business workshop, and two chair aerobics classes to keep you moving at West End and Five Points West.

Papel Picado Craft Week
📍 Southside Branch Library
🗓️ Monday, September 15 – Friday, September 19, during library hours, 9:00 a.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Families can create a traditional Papel Picado (“perforated paper”) banner to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. Fun fact: San Salvador Huixcolotla, in Puebla, Mexico, is considered the birthplace of papel picado (Wikipedia).

Crafts, Conversation & Community
📍 Springville Road Regional Branch Library
🗓️ Monday, September 15 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Gather with other adults, enjoy conversation, and make a craft together. All materials provided.

Fund My Business (Virtual Workshop)
📍 Online via Zoom
🗓️ Tuesday, September 16 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Learn how to secure financial backing for your small business. This three-session virtual workshop, presented by Centro Community Partners, covers loan applications, financing options, and capital strategies. The final session includes one-on-one conversations with experienced business financial advisors.
