2026 BPL Summer Reading Spotlight: Where Stories Take the Stage at Wylam Branch Library


This summer, the Birmingham Public Library is inviting readers of all ages to dig deeper into stories, creativity and discovery through its 2026 Summer Reading Program. With more than 200 free programs taking place at library locations across the city throughout June and July, there are countless opportunities to learn, explore and connect with others in the community.

Each branch offers its own unique mix of activities, and Wylam Branch Library is no exception. From movie mornings and magic shows to theater workshops, book discussions, live music experiences and hands-on art adventures, Wylam's Summer Reading lineup encourages participants to explore new ideas while having fun along the way.

Dig into Popcorn and a Movie

Tuesday, June 9 | 10-11 a.m.

We've got the popcorn and movie ready—now all that's missing is you. Bring your family, grab a seat and enjoy a fun-filled movie morning at the library.

Magic, Mayhem & Mind-Blowing Fun with Magician Brandon Herring

Tuesday, June 16 | 9-10 a.m.

Prepare to be amazed as magician Brandon Herring brings an interactive family magic show packed with humor, audience participation and astonishing tricks. From card magic to mind-reading, this entertaining performance sparks imagination and reminds us that every great story is filled with surprises waiting to be discovered.



Wylam Book Club

Wednesday, June 17 | 11 a.m.-12 p.m. & Wednesday, July 15| 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Readers are invited to join the Wylam Book Club for lively conversations and thoughtful discussions about the group's Book of the Month. It's a great opportunity to discover new genres, share perspectives and connect with fellow book lovers.


Little Legends on Stage! A Theatre Adventure

Tuesday, June 23 | 10-11 a.m.

Presented by Red Mountain Theatre, this interactive workshop introduces young participants to the exciting world of theater. Through acting, movement and creative expression, students will build confidence, explore storytelling and discover the joy of bringing characters to life.



Big Imagination, Bright Lights! Theatre Fun

Tuesday, June 30 | 10-11 a.m.

The theatrical adventure continues as participants explore creativity, performance and storytelling through engaging activities led by professional teaching artists. Young performers will have the chance to stretch their imaginations and shine in a supportive environment.

Feel the Rhythm: Alabama's Blues Come Alive with the Alabama Blues Project

Tuesday, July 7 | 10-11 a.m.

Discover the rich musical heritage of Alabama through this lively program presented by the Alabama Blues Project. Participants will explore the rhythms, stories and cultural impact of blues music while enjoying an engaging and interactive experience.

Art Adventures at the Library

Tuesday, July 21 | 10-11 a.m.

In partnership with the Birmingham Museum of Art, this hands-on program invites participants to unleash their creativity through artistic exploration. Attendees will discover new ways to express themselves while connecting with the world of art in a fun and welcoming setting.
