Birmingham New Music Festival to Take Place at Central Library on Saturday, October 10

The 2015 Birmingham New Music Festival will present a concert at the Central Library, 2100 Park Place in downtown Birmingham on Saturday, October 10. The free concert will begin at 4:00 p.m. inside Richard Arrington, Jr. Auditorium in the Linn-Henley Building.

The Central Library performance will consist of a string quartet: Sarah Nordlund Dennis and Pei-Ju Wu on violins, Wendy Richman on viola, and Laura Usiskin on cello. The concert is among many taking place across metro Birmingham as part of the 2015 festival, which began Thursday, October 8, and concludes Sunday, October 11.

The second annual Birmingham New Music Festival celebrates the Birmingham Art Music Alliance’s 20th year of presenting new music by Alabama composers. As part of the celebration, six concerts will feature music by Alabama composers and performances by some founding members who have since moved on to other parts of the country. Additionally, five guest composers were selected through collaboration with New York City new music organizations Vox Novus and Composers Concordance.

See the complete schedule of concerts at http://fest.artmusic.org/. Admission to all of the concerts is free. The festival is made possible by contributions from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
