Titusville Library Receives $5,000 Donation from Sen. Rodger Smitherman and Birmingham Council President Pro-Tem Crystal Smitherman

The Titusville Branch Library has received a$5,000 Donation from Alabama State Senator Rodger Smitherman  and his daughter, Birmingham City Councilor Pro-Tem Crystal Smitherman. 

Smitherman represents State District 18, which includes the Titusville Library. The Smitherman family has been long-time supporters of the Birmingham Public Library System. Smitherman's wife is Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Carole Smitherman. 

Crystal Smitherman, who represents District 6 and has given several donations to Titusville Library over the past two years, said her family is honored to support their community library.

"Our Titusville Library has served as a safe haven for lifelong learning for decades," she said. "Students are assisted with homework and project assignments, while our seniors are the backbone of strength that keeps the library vibrant. We salute the branch manager and staff of the library who serve as beacons of light for so many patrons and friends of the library. Thank you for helping our community travel and explore new places and people. Thank you for bringing the pillar to our community.” 

Titusville Branch Manager Reba Williams said the library is appreciative of the Smithermans' long-standing support of libraries in their district, including past funding of programs such as the library's monthly Titusville Branch Community Resource Days. 

"The Titusville Branch Library is honored to receive this donation from Senator Rodger Smitherman and City Council President Pro-Tem Crystal Smitherman, as it will assist fulfill BPL’s role as a social anchor in the community to inform, educate and empower residents, Williams said. "This donation will enable the library to better serve not only the residents of District 6 but all who visit the Birmingham Public Library."
