Celebrate The Life Of MLK At The North Birmingham Regional Branch Library

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a national holiday that celebrates the life and legacy of the famous civil rights leader. It takes place on the third Monday of January based on his birthday (January 15). King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his nonviolent civil disobedience to improve the lives of black Americans. His life and work continue to be celebrated long after his death in 1968.

MLK Day is also designated as a National Day of Service where people are encouraged to volunteer to improve their communities.

The North Birmingham Regional Branch Library has upcoming programs that honor and draw inspiration from this civil rights activist. Come celebrate with us this January!

MLK Scavenger Hunt

Youth Program

Starts Wednesday, January 4 | All day during business hours 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

Children will search the youth department for clues in a scavenger hunt celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 

Dreaming Aloud: MLK Paint Party

Teen & Seniors Program

Friday, January 13 | Starts at 1:00 p.m.

Participants from different generations will learn about the life of Dr. King while acquiring the skill of painting. This program is a collaboration between North Birmingham Library and Artist Willie Williams of Studio 2500.

Giving March

Youth Program

Friday, January 13 | Starts at 4:00 p.m.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the youth department will "march" throughout the library and hand out bags of toiletries and snacks, thanking our patrons for being themselves and supporting our library. 

Human Bingo

Youth Program

Tuesday, January 17 | Starts at 4:00 p.m.

In honor of It's Okay to Be Different month, children will appreciate and embrace differences in others by playing a people-centered version of bingo.
