BPL Receives $29,000 Grant to Provide Free Tutoring for Birmingham City Students Throughout 2023

Birmingham, Ala. - The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) has received grant funding to provide year-long free tutoring services for 2nd and 3rd grade students in the Birmingham City School System during 2023.
Support for this free tutoring was provided by a $29,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. BPL is also partnering with the Birmingham Promise, which will provide tutors. The tutoring will cover literacy and homework assistance.
BPL will host a BPL Tutoring Open House for 2nd and 3rd grade students and their parents/guardians from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. between Monday, December 19 and Wednesday, December 21, at the Central Library downtown. Attendees will get a chance to tour the library tutoring area, ask questions about upcoming tutoring sessions, and gain early access to the January 2023 tutoring registration.

Open to 30 Students (2nd & 3rd Grade)

There will be no tutoring during intercession or spring break (Between March 20 and March 31, 2023)
Over the past two years, BPL has provided free tutoring for Birmingham city school students at several locations. That includes a $16,000 grant for free tutoring the Friends Foundation of BPL was awarded in June 2021 from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham
