Agonizing Over Your Ancestors? Attend April’s Amazing Lineup of Genealogy Classes!

Has your search for your ancestors stalled? Maybe you do not know where to start or are feeling overwhelmed? The Southern History Department is offering three classes this month to jump start your genealogy research.
Family History Tree
Introduction to Genealogy covers such topics as vital records, courthouse and church records, and the Federal Census and is intended for beginners. No registration is required. The same content will be covered in each of the classes that are offered on one Tuesday morning and one Sunday afternoon each month. This month, Introduction to Genealogy will be offered on Tuesday, April 7 from 11:30 am-12:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Classes are conducted in the Southern History Department, Birmingham Public Library, First Floor, Linn-Henley Research Library.
Beyond the Basics of Genealogy

Our next workshop is our Beyond the Basics of Genealogy is on April 25 at 10:00 a.m. in the Arrington Auditorium of the Linn-Henley Research Library. This workshop is entitled “All Your Base Are Belong to Us": Getting the Best from BPL's Databases. Many people assume that the only genealogy information in BPL’s databases is housed under the genealogy tab in our list of databases. That's one way, but you can often find useful family history material in locations you didn't expect. Come and explore how to mine our databases for assistance with your research. Discover interactive maps, online photo and document collections, and more! Registration is requested for our Beyond the Basics of Genealogy workshops. You can register online, email us at askgenlocal@bham.lib.al.us, or call us at 205-226-3665.
