What to Expect at BPL's 2025 Self-Care MasterMind Series Kicking Off January 7

Self-Care MasterMind: Community Edition, a wellness coaching series, kicks off Tuesday, January 7.

C.J. Wade is instructor of Self-Care MasterMind, a BPL monthly wellness coaching series

Would you like to make your physical, mental, and emotional health a priority in 2025? Then plan on joining the Birmingham Public Library every month at the Central Library downtown for the "Self-Care Mastermind: Community Edition."

The series kicks off next Tuesday, January 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the BPL Research Library's 4th Floor Arrington Auditorium, 2100 Park Place.

The program topic will be different each month, but all will focus on improving your overall well-being by engaging in purposeful and persistent health practices. Each presentation will consist of lecture, discussion, and audience participation.

The instructor for the Self-Care Mastermind: Community Edition series is Christina (C. J.) Wade. Ms. Wade is a licensed massage therapist and certified health coach.

In a Q&A with BPL PR Director Roy Williams, class instructor C.J. Wade talked about what attendees can expect every month during the 2025 Self-Care MasterMind:Community Edition series.

 • BPL: How will 2025 Self Care MasterMind differ from 2024 and how will it be similar?

Wade: Last year's 10-month Self-Care MasterMind was insightful and personal. This year is a 12-month series and we're keeping those same elements, plus more micro-activities that community members can take home each month.
With permission, I will email them the digital takeaway for the session. At the end of the year, one should be able to see a trajectory of self-care tools they can incorporate in their lifestyle.

 • BPL: How did you come up with the monthly topics for 2025?

Wade:  I have an inventory of topics that can be used in my You Matter Self-Care MasterMind program. I've curated well before I began this career.

Last year, I polled the community members of their interests and incorporated what they wanted to know in 2025. I'm excited to share more tools so we can be well together.

 • BPL: Why is making self-care a priority an important New Year's Resolution to make?

Wade: Everything depends on your wellness. From work to family to recreation, if you are not well inside and out, you cannot live, let alone enjoy living. At some point, you must ask yourself: Do I want to enjoy the life I have left? If you desire to do so, that is possible starting now.

• BPL: How can one self-assessment their mental and physical state now compared to what they need to do in 2025 and beyond?

Wade:  Start by asking yourself, "What do I need right now?" This is one of my favorite questions to self-assess and recalibrate. Every journey begins with a step, so start with one thing you can do better.

 • BPL: Anything else to add?

Wade:  Yes! This community edition of my program is a great way to grow and maintain consistency in your self-care lifestyle. One hour per month is a reasonable investment in yourself. You deserve a healthy you and so does everyone around you.
