Sneak Preview of Silent Auction at A Novel Tasting

One of the highlights of the Birmingham Public Library’s annual spring fundraiser is the silent auction. Curious about what will be up for bidding? Here's a sneak peek at some of the fabulous items that await guests at this year’s A Novel Tasting.

18-karat white gold and diamond earrings

Looking for an elegant gift for a loved one? Need jewels to complement an outfit for a special occasion? This exquisite pair of earrings is generously donated by Levy’s Fine Jewelry, a cornerstone of antique, vintage, and contemporary bijoux in downtown Birmingham. Each of these beautiful hugger-style earrings is crafted of 18-karat white gold and adorned with eight diamonds.

Amy Peterson: City Color, oil on board, 16" x 16"

Are you a collector of fine art? Would you like to enliven the walls of your living space? This oil painting by local artist Amy Peterson happens to fit both criteria. Peterson’s City Color depicts a Birmingham street scene and is complemented by a high-gloss black frame. Peterson’s Impressionist-inspired city scenes, interiors, still lifes, and landscapes can be found in collections around the world. It is one of several works by local artists to be featured in the silent auction.

Who will make the first bid on this decorative serving bowl from Earthborn Studios? Tena Payne, owner of this Leeds-based business, has spent her life working clay on a pottery wheel, crafting serving-ware masterpieces. Chefs across the county have come to depend on Payne to create unique pieces on which to showcase their culinary creations. Works from her pottery have graced restaurant tables from Birmingham to Hong Kong and Amsterdam.

Guests at A Novel Tasting will also enjoy live music by Sol Música, gourmet food prepared by Ashley Mac’s, complimentary drinks, and a tasting of wine, beer, and spirits presented by local distributors, breweries, and distilleries. Proceeds from the event will fund programs and services at all BPL locations.
