Between 1900 and 1950, Sloss Furnaces maintained company houses throughout Birmingham’s industrial district. Sloss Quarters, the 48 shotgun houses adjacent to City Furnaces, were designed specifically for African-American workers. Sloss curator Karen Utz will use oral history interviews with former residents to reconstruct life in Sloss Quarters. Wednesday, May 27, noon.
