Brown Bag Program: A Sense of Place: Like It Ain’t Never Passed: Life in Sloss Quarters

sloss furnaces quarters
Between 1900 and 1950, Sloss Furnaces maintained company houses throughout Birmingham’s industrial district. Sloss Quarters, the 48 shotgun houses adjacent to City Furnaces, were designed specifically for African-American workers. Sloss curator Karen Utz will use oral history interviews with former residents to reconstruct life in Sloss Quarters. Wednesday, May 27, noon.
