Celebrate World Music Day at Woodlawn Branch Library This Friday, June 20
World Music Day, also known as Make Music Day, is celebrated annually on June 21st. To prepare for this annual celebration of music, patrons are invited to join us at Woodlawn Branch Library, 5701 1st Avenue N, at 11:00 a.m. this Friday, June 20. Attendees will make instruments out of recyclable materials.
The Encyclopedia Britannica identifies musical instruments as “almost universal components of human culture.” To celebrate this cultural cornerstone, World Music Day originated in France in 1982 as a local festival from their Ministry of Culture. It has now spread throughout the world and is celebrated in cities around the globe, including locations here in Alabama!
Woodlawn Branch hopes to empower participants to make music in solidarity with others around the world, using their own tools and created instruments. All ages are welcome!
