March is Women's History Month! The theme for 2022 is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope." This theme is dedicated to the caregivers and frontline workers in this ongoing pandemic and "the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history."
Celebrate with the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) this month with these unique events highlighting women's history.

Wednesday, March 30 | Starts at 2:00 p.m.
Russell Lee from Five Points West Library will present a music appreciation program, looking at definitive female vocalists from different genres of music. This program will include listening samples, photos, a playlist, and possibly some video clips during the session. Patrons might want to bring a pen and paper!

Tired of Giving In: Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
Monday, March 7—Friday, April 1
Join us for the opening reception on Friday, March 11, from 6:00—7:00 p.m. in the Central Library's Grand Reading Room! The event will feature a talk about the exhibit from Madeline Burkhardt, Adult Education Coordinator/Curator of the Rosa Parks Museum. The exhibit will be on display at the Central Library during operating hours from March 7—April 1, 2022.
The Tired of Giving In: Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott exhibit was made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Bards & Brews: "Strong Her" Open Mic Night
Friday, March 11 | From 7:00—9:00 p.m.
Ashley Jones, Alabama’s youngest and first black Poet Laureate, is hosting Bards & Brews: "Strong Her." This is an open mic in honor of Women’s History Month. Some of metro Birmingham’s most talented poets will share original poetry paying tribute to strong women. Bards & Brews is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Women's Health Issues with Bridgett Rene

Continuing the discussion from North Birmingham Library (Friday, March 11), join Inglenook Library for a discussion on women's health issues with Bridgett Rene, a yoga specialist instructor. There will be free massages with limited availability!

Drawing is hard, but collaging is easy! Celebrate Women's History Month by making portraits of women with magazine clippings. This program is virtual and will be posted on the North Birmingham Library's Facebook page.
