Mary Harris Richardson assists young students at Counting Stars Tutoring

To all Birmingham area parents: Does your child need FREE tutoring help?

Take advantage of Counting Stars Tutoring at West End Branch Library, 1348 Tuscaloosa Ave. SW., Birmingham, AL 35211.

Counting Stars Tutoring happens every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the West End Branch Library.


Stop by and meet our tutor, Mary Harris Richardson, a graduate of Tuskegee Institute with a B.S. degree and Alabama State University with a Master’s in Education and AA Certification. She taught in the Bessemer City School System for more than 30 years.

Richardson's areas of expertise are science, English, social studies, physical education, and Advanced Placement Government.

After retiring from the school system, she accepted a position with the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) at the West End Library.

Tutoring is offered at the West End Library every Wednesday after school for:
  • 2nd-5th grades in reading, English, and social studies
  • 9th-12th grades in English, ACT English preparation, history, and government
Other days of the week are available upon request!

The BPL offers several free tutoring assistance programs, like HomeworkAlabama.org.


Starting Saturday, October 16, the Central Branch Library will also host free tutoring sessions every Saturday in the Youth Department on the second floor.
