Have you ever wanted to share your poetry, your story, or that one verse you’ve been keeping in your notebook? The Birmingham Public Library invites you to take the mic or just soak in the energy at the final Bards & Brews Open Mic of 2025, happening Friday, November 7 at Monday Night Brewing–Social Club near Railroad Park.

Bards & Brews is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Hosted by Thed Weller, this free event welcomes all voices, from first-time performers to seasoned spoken word artists. Step up, speak out, and discover why Bards & Brews has become one of Birmingham’s most inspiring gatherings for creative expression.

In addition to open mic performances by seasoned poets and first-timers, the night will feature poet-artist K. Lovell, whose work fuses poetry, music, and visual art to explore the rhythms of life in Birmingham. His journey into poetry began unexpectedly, turning song lyrics into verse. Lovell's performances now blend sound, color, and emotion in unforgettable ways.

Now in its 15th yearBards & Brews has gained a reputation as a unifying event for Birmingham's arts community.  Bards & Brews continues to bring together poets, musicians, and listeners who love the power of words. Whether you’re ready to perform or just want to cheer others on, this is your last chance of the year to experience the magic.

🎤 Join us for an evening of poetry, connection, and creativity. The mic is waiting. What story will you tell?

K. Lovell performs at Bards & Brews inside Uptown Jazz in March 2023.
