Join the Central Library on Saturday, August 5, 2023, 1:00–3:00 p.m., for Bare Hands Inc.'s first Memorial Altar Box Art Classes!

These all-ages art classes are free, and all materials are provided. Snacks, too! Learn more about Día de los Muertos celebrations by creating a unique altar for a loved one. You can register for a memorial altar box art class here!

Bare Hands Inc. is hosting a series of free, all-ages art classes to help the Birmingham community create their own ofrendas, or altars, that commemorate loved ones that passed away.

A variety of altar boxes, including one to Anthony Bourdain

Bare Hands Inc. will provide materials, art teachers, and snacks. (Attendees are welcome to bring their own art supplies as well.) And you bring color copies of photos and other mementos, small replicas of things they enjoyed, and anything else that reminds of you of your passed love one.

A lot of art supplies for the altar box art classes.

Stacks of cigar boxes to make altar boxes out of.

If you can't print out the photo, email barehandsoutreach@barehandsinc.org, and they will print it out for you. If you bring the original photo, they can also make a copy for you!

Muralist Dewon Moton will create artwork for the Día de los Muertos festival inspired by these classes. The art classes are happening all across the city, so everyone has the chance to join a one.
