2023 Summer Reading Continues in July at BPL

 


2023 Summer Reading continues at the Birmingham Public Library through the end of July. 

There are dozens of fun, free activities for patrons of all ages to choose from.  Click on the BPL calendar to see the full list.

 Here are some of the Summer Reading programs happening from Thursday, July 6 through the end of July.




 - Pick up a grab-and-go mystery kit, featuring a different mystery every week. Pick the right suspect and get your name on the Master Sleuth Wall! 




Grab this craft to make at home. Express yourself and create a visual of who you are and who you want to be in a colorful collage of words and shapes.



Kids, as well a adults, will be in awe as they watch their seeds grow into plants. Drop by all week to pick up this week's Grab N Go craft to take home. As the plant grows bigger, their plant will possibly produce food to eat! This adventure encourages family involvement.   



Free Summer Enrichment focused on Literacy and STEM at Central Library, Mondays through Fridays through July 27, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Central Library Youth Department, 2nd Floor

 Birmingham Public Library is providing free summer tutoring for Summer 2023 for 2nd and 3rd grade students. The enrichment program begins Monday, June 12th and ends Thursday, July 27th. Program times are 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There are two registration options: Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays. There are no programs scheduled for the week of Monday, July 3rd through Friday, July 7th. The subjects covered are Literacy & STEM. Please register by clicking here





 Come join us in the Adult Department and express yourself through creative writing, ranging from poetry, to short stories to paragraphs. 





Participants are taught one quilting block each month. All materials are provided. 




Stop by, play a game, and chill with library staff at Smithfield.



Participants will be introduced to Ancestry.com Library Edition. They will be shown how to use this database to discover valuable information about their ancestors. 






Get crafty in the Avondale Regional Library Youth Department. You may "take and make" at home or "Stay and create" inside Avondale Library. Free craft kits are available. 



 


 Have fun painting rocks and sharing them with friends. Once you pick up this Grab N Go kit, you can decorate rocks that look like you and your friends. Friends Forever!

Meet the men and women who keep us safe during fires and emergencies in Birmingham. Get a close up look at their firefighting equipment and fire truck. 





Learn about the history and art of Henna tattoos. Young people must have a signed permission form from parent/guardian  by Monday, July 10, 2023.  You can pick up permission forms at the Springville Road Library. Open to pre-teens and teens between ages of 11 and 18. Refreshments will be served. 



Meet with us for twice weekly walks in Avondale Park to improve physical fitness and enjoy socializing in the community.

Participants will learn how to preserve family heirlooms such as papers, photos and  letters for future generations.
