The First Bards & Brews Slam Of 2023 Is This Friday, Feb 3

Bards and Brews Slam flyer on Friday, February 3. It is happening at the Central Library starting at 6:30 p.m. Registration starts at 6:00 p.m. if any poets are interested in performing.

The first Bards & Brews Slam of 2023 is this Friday, February 3, at the Central Library! The night beings at 6:30 p.m. with an opening performance from local artist G. I. Magus

If you're interested in competeing in the slam, registration starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. and is available to the first 10 participants with a registration fee of $5.00.

  • Where: Central Library | 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL 35203
  • Details: Bards & Brews hosts its first slam of 2023 this Friday. Registration starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. and is available to the first 10 participants with a registration fee of $5.00. 1st prize is $200, 2nd prize is $100, and 3rd prize is $50. This program is free and open to the public. G. I. Magus is the opening entertainment for the night. Wine will be provided for the night. Patrons and poets must be 18 and up to attend and 21 and up with proof of I.D. to drink. This program is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

10 poets will compete to be in the final three, and the audience decides who wins. Select audience judges will give out numeric scores for each poet, but other audience members can disagree and express their support for a poet to try to change the judges' scores.

Prizes are listed as follows:

  • 1st prize is $200
  • 2nd prize is $100
  • 3rd prize is $50

Enjoy a glass of wine while lisenting to our opening performer, G. I. Magus. If you know Birmingham's local music scene, you will recognize his stylish outfits, high energy, and creative lyrics. G. I. Magus describes himself as a postive hiphop artist with a focus on promoting individuality and good energy. His latest release is an ambitious project called "Bare," where he gets vulnerable with the details of his life. He won the 8th Annual Alabama Music Awards 2022 for male artist in the hip hop/rap catergory this last summer. Listen to his music ahead of the performance here.
