Including the October one, there are only two Bards & Brews left in 2023. The remaining Bards & Brews are open mics. Our open mics are the perfect opportunity to share your spoken word arts. As a refresher, spoken word encompasses poetry, short stories, singing, and rap. Hear some of the Birmingham metro area's most talented spoken word artists. Or make your debut as one.
Each Bards & Brews has a featured poet or a guest entertainer who opens the night before our spoken word artists take the stage. Our opening performers are local talent from here in the Magic Ciy—maybe you've seen them before.
Nuriyah is a belly dancer from Birmingham, AL, who specializes in the classical Egyptian style. She started dancing in 2008 and has performed in shows and festivals locally and regionally for the past ten years.
"Belly dancing is what grounds me and helps keep me happy," says Nuriyah, who is also a mental health care advocate.
If you would like to follow her latest events, you can find her on Facebook as Nuriyah Raqs or check out her website!
Hi-Wire Brewing in Birmingham's well-lit space provides the perfect stage for our guest entertainer and Bards & Brews poets. Dogs are welcome, too!
Located in the Lakeview Green building, their brewery offers 20 unique beers to try and interactive games, like soccer pool, table tennis, foosball, and shuffleboard. Outdoor seating on the Lakeview Green lawn offers a relaxing view of the lazy river fountain that trails across the green.
Street parking is available around the block and some parking spots are available on the retail side of the Lakeview Green apartment parking lot but not in the residential spots.
If anyone gets hungry, Mezon Catering & Food Truck, Mayawell's resident food truck, is right across the street. They offer tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and inventive burgers.
