Details: April is National Poetry Month, and the Birmingham Public Library is celebrating those with the gift of spoken word.
At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4, the Central Library in downtown Birmingham is hosting a Bards & Brews Open Mic Tribute to National Poetry Month. Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month highlights the important role that poets play in society and to spread the word that poetry matters.
Open mics are welcome to all forms of spoken word arts. This program is free and open to the public. You must be 18+ to enter and 21+ to drink with proof of age via I.D. Bards and Brews is sponsored by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to the Friends Foundation of the Birmingham Public Library.
