When: Friday, August 13, 2021, 6:00 p.m.
Where: Central Library, 2100 Park Place in downtown Birmingham
Details: Ever wanted to share your original poetry before a live audience? BPL will host its popular spoken word poetry/craft beer event Bards & Brews as an open mic this Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Library. No advanced registration is required; sign up to participate in person. Masks required.
The emcee will be Voice Porter, a veteran Birmingham poet who was featured in a 2019 national spotlight by Starbucks Coffee. Join us as some of the nation's most talented spoken word artists share their talent. Or cheer on friends, family or strangers who bravely go before the audience to read original poetry.
Attendees must wear facemasks to comply with the City of Birmingham’s mask mandate inside city-owned facilities. For those who cannot attend this live event in person, it will air virtually on the Bards & Brews Facebook page.
In its 11th year, Bards & Brews as become known as an event that unifies the metro Birmingham arts community. Held at various libraries in the city and county, as well as breweries and other venues, Bards has allowed novice poets to gain enough confidence to appear at venues across the nation.
Last month, Bards & Brews made its debut at Ferus Artisan Ales, a brewery in Trussville, in partnership with the Trussville Public Library. The July 15 Bards & Brews in Trussville attracted a capacity crowd to Ferus Artisan Ales.
