Kick Off 2024 Magic City Classic Week at BPL's "Let Loose in the Library: Classic Cocktails" October 22 at the Central Library

Don't miss the Birmingham Public Library's 3rd Annual Let Loose in the Library: Classic Cocktails, set for 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Central Library downtown next Tuesday, October 22. Kick off your 2024 Magic City Classic week by making new friends and reconnecting with alumni from Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University. 

Hosted by V 94.9 FM DJ/radio personality Dana "Lady Woo" Woodruff and Jermaine "Funnymaine" Johnson, BPL's Classic Cocktails kickoff party promises to be an evening to remember! 

The event features tailgate-style food, a cigar lounge, fabulous specialty cocktail drinks, a beer bar, and fun games. Get your dancing shoes ready for music spun by DJ Christin French. Classic Cocktails is sponsored by the Friends Foundation of the Birmingham Public Library plus other sponsors listed on the flyer above. Tickets are $40 apiece and available for purchase on Eventbrite. 

Proceeds help support library programs and services at 18 libraries across Birmingham.    

Black football classics are the epicenter where sports, HBCU culture and Black history converge. They are far bigger than the game. In Birmingham alone, the Magic City Classic has an annual economic impact of $23 million.

When it comes to networking and connection opportunities, nothing in Birmingham matches Magic City Classic week in size. Daily events are held across the city—from parties to concerts, tailgating, parades—and of course the halftime Battle of the Bands between the Alabama A&M Bulldogs and the Alabama State Marching Hornets.

HBCU football classics are a time for reunion in the Black community. The Magic City Classic has become the biggest networking event for African-Americans in Alabama, drawing as many tailgaters outside as the 69,210 fans that packed Legion Field last year, the biggest crowd of any HBCU classic in the nation.
