The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) continues to offer exciting programs that go way beyond books. With 18 library locations across the city, there's always something to learn, discover, or enjoy for patrons of all ages, activities that meet our mission to provide the highest quality experience to our community for lifelong learning, cultural enrichment and enjoyment. 

This week’s Beyond Books spotlight features a craft program by the Birmingham Museum of Art at East Lake Branch, a Grow With Google workshop at the Central Library, Play Create & Imagine Lab at North Avondale Branch, and more.

Coding Club
🕒 Monday, August 25 | 3:00–4:00 p.m. | North Avondale Branch Library
Learn coding basics through fun projects on Scratch, experiment with binary coding, and even make binary “charms” while cracking the code of how computers communicate.

Create a Paper Mosaic
🕘 Tuesday, August 26 | 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. | Woodlawn Branch Library
Drop in anytime to create your own paper mosaic masterpiece using provided materials. A great hands-on project for all ages.

Birmingham Museum of Art Craft Program
🕒 Tuesday, August 26 | 3:00–5:00 p.m. | East Lake Branch Library
Join special guests from the Birmingham Museum of Art for an engaging, all-ages craft session. All materials provided; just bring your creativity!

Grow With Google: Digital Tools for Small Business
🕠 Tuesday, August 26 | 5:30–7:00 p.m. | Central Library
Learn how to use Google’s free tools to build your business online. Featured presenter Gilberto Herrera, Alabama Digital Coach for Grow with Google, will be joined by guest small business owners who will share their experiences.

Gold Leaf Flower Heads: Learn the Art of Gilding
🕚 Wednesday, August 27 | 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. | Powderly Branch Library
Discover the elegant craft of gilding by applying shimmering gold leaf to stunning floral portraits. Adults of all skill levels are welcome. Materials provided.

Play, Create & Imagine Lab
🕒 Wednesday, August 27 | 3:00–4:00 p.m. | North Avondale Branch Library
Kids rotate through fun STEM stations featuring Legos, slime, playdough, and more. This program will  spark imagination, problem-solving, and creativity.

Artwork on Tile
🕧 Thursday, August 28 | 12:30–1:30 p.m. | Pratt City Branch Library
Transform a plain tile into your own work of art by adding an image of your choice and creating a mini mural to take home.

Move Thursday
🕓 Thursday, August 28 | 4:00–5:00 p.m. | Inglenook Branch Library
Get moving with interactive dance fun! Join us for Just Dance challenges plus a short dance class.
