Details: The 2020 Black Heritage Fair will have several genealogy displays, singers, vendors, children dancers, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) information table, and guest speaker from the Walker County NAACP.
On Saturday, February 1, the Birmingham African American Genealogy Group, Inc. (BAAGG) will host its annual Black Heritage Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Central Library's Arrington Auditorium, Linn Henley Building downtown.
This year’s Fair theme “African Americans and the Vote” is intended to educate the general public with an interest in African American genealogy and culture. This event is free and open to families and patrons of all ages.
The 2020 Black Heritage Fair will have several genealogy displays, singers, vendors, children dancers, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) information table, and guest speaker Shirley Mitchell of the Walker County NAACP. Besides kicking off a monthlong celebration of Black History Month, the fair aims to remind African-Americans of their unique culture, the importance of registering to vote, and stir up others in the community to vote.
Festivities will kick off with registration at 10 a.m.. Booths sharing information about various participating organizations will be available. The League of Women Voters will also provide voter registration assistance. Door prizes will be drawn.
The Birmingham African American Genealogy Group, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt charitable organization founded in 1999 as the Birmingham African American Genealogy Study Group with an emphasis on African American genealogy, history and culture.
