BPL Executive Director Floyd Council said BPL is excited to bring library service to curbsides at its four regional library locations beginning Monday, June 15.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Birmingham Public Library has been determined to serve our community with the use of virtual library services available on our website (www.cobpl.org), the library mobile applications, and all social media channels,” Council said. "Between now and when we reopen to the public in the future, in addition to 24/7 virtual library services, we invite the Birmingham community to enjoy curbside library service as the next best thing to having our buildings open to the public."

How will the BPL curbside pickup process work?

Patrons may call any of BPL’s 19 libraries to place a hold. They will have the option to select one of the four regional libraries to pick up the materials: Avondale Library (205-226-4000); Five Points West Library (205-226-4013); North Birmingham Library (205-226-4025); and Springville Road Library (205-226-4081).

Patrons may also place holds online at www.cobpl.org or through the BPL mobile app. Patrons will be contacted when their items are ready to be picked up, and then schedule a time to retrieve their materials at a designated library.

Once the patrons arrive at the library, patrons will call again to alert the library they are in the parking lot. A library staff member will check out the materials, place the items in a bag with the patron’s name on it, and deliver the bag to a designated table located outside the library doors. The patron will then pick up their materials once the library staff member is safely back inside the library.

When coming to pick up items, all library materials being returned must be placed in the library book drops. For the safety of everyone involved, returned materials will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours, and will take several days to be cleared from your account. No late fees will be charged.
