“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” - Epictetus

Gratitude is defined as an act of thankfulness and appreciation and is often regarded philosophically. We often talk about the positive impact that the act of gratitude has on the recipient and how good it makes the giver feels.

However, there is a scientific component of gratitude that is often overlooked. In fact, there is a multitude of both quantitative and qualitative research supporting claims of the benefits that gratitude has on the brain, social relationships, and even the physical body.

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, on Friday, November 19,  at 3:00 p.m. North Birmingham Branch Library will delve into the topic of “gratitude” by hosting a program titled, “The Science of the Act of Gratitude.”

A film will be shown outlining the scientific aspects of gratitude followed by an open platform for attendees to share and inspire others with their stories of gratitude. Food will be served afterwards.

Seating is limited. Please contact North Birmingham Library at (205) 226-4025 to register.
