About K. Lovell, Featured Poet at Bards & Brews Open Mic -UpTown Jazz, Friday, August 2

Since returning to Birmingham about a decade ago, K. Lovell has fallen in love with the Magic City by becoming more connected with the art community. Music, poetry, dance, and graphic arts are often presented in the various types of art he composes.  Additionally, certain facets of growing up in Birmingham become subjects of his work.

K. Lovell "back-doored into poetry" at the behest of his friend, Marlon Spears. Marlon was playing in a jazz group that was backing poets performing at a local event. Marlon encouraged his friend to perform as poetry, some lyrics K. Lovell composed for a song they co-wrote. The fire was lit.

 K. Lovell most often synchronizes his artistic, poetic, and musical ideas. A series of art called the AYE Musicians was developed so that Marlon, who has been blind since birth, could "view" them. Some of his poetry now "illustrates" a few of those pieces.

 K. Lovell hopes to display some of his poetry, music, and art that coexist in his thought processes—and hopefully, will in yours.

Come hear featured poet K. Lovell and other spoken word artists at BPL's Bards & Brews this Friday, August 2, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at UpTown Jazz, 2250-B 9th Avenue North in downtown Birmingham.
