The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) continues to offer exciting programs that go far beyond booksWith 18 library locations across the city, patrons can always find opportunities to learn, create and connect.

Each week, BPL hosts activities that support our mission of providing the highest quality experience for lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and enjoyment.

This week’s Beyond Books spotlight includes an electric circuits STEM program at Five Points West Regional Library, a painting craft program featuring bubble wrap and Q-tips at Titusville Branch, a Let’s Talk Medicare discussion BPL Facebook page, and the last Bards & Brews Open Mic poetry event of the year, happening November 7 at Monday Night Brewing–Social Club, 14 12th Street South, Birmingham.

Monday, November 3

Grateful Chain
🕚 9 a.m.–6 p.m. |Titusville Branch Library

Write down what you’re grateful for and Titusville staff will create a paper chain to hang throughout the library!

Monday, November 3

Snap Circuits
🕚 4 p.m.–5 p.m. |Five Points West Regional Library

Join us in learning about electric circuits by building fun projects with Snap Circuits!

Tuesday, November 4

Off the Hook Crochet
🕚 10 a.m.–12 p.m. | Smithfield Branch Library 

Come learn how to crochet or make new friends while taking your skills to next level.

Wednesday, November 5

Medicare 101: How does it work?
🕚 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | Pratt City Branch Library

Seniors and new retirees can listen and learn about Medicare, including updates. They will receive information packets to take home. Snacks will be served.

Wednesday, November 5

A Fun Painting Craft with Bubble Wrap & Q-tips
🕚 10:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. | Titusville Branch Library

Join Titusville Branch in painting simple flowers on a black  canvas using acrylic paints, bubble wrap and Q tips.

Thursday, November 6

Chess for Kids
🕚 3:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m. | West End Branch Library

Learn to play chess at young age. No experience necessary. Snacks will be provided.

Game Afternoon
🕚 3:30 p.m.–4:30 a.m. | Woodlawn Branch Library

Join Woodlawn Branch for a fun afternoon of board games, card games and snacks. 

Friday, November 7

Bards & Brews Open Mic

🕚6:30 p.m. | Monday Night Brewing-Social Club, 14 12th Street South, Birmingham

Join us for BPL’s last Bards & Brews Open mic of the year. Bards & Brews, BPL’s popular spoken word poetry/craft beer program, is sponsored by the Alabama State Council of the Arts.
