The Birmingham Public Library (BPL) continues to offer
exciting programs that go far beyond books. With 18
library locations across the city, patrons can always find opportunities to
learn, create and connect.
Each week, BPL hosts activities that support our mission of
providing the highest quality experience for lifelong learning, cultural
enrichment, and enjoyment.
This week’s Beyond Books spotlight includes an electric
circuits STEM program at Five Points West Regional Library, a painting craft
program featuring bubble wrap and Q-tips at Titusville Branch, a Let’s Talk
Medicare discussion BPL Facebook page, and the last Bards & Brews Open Mic
poetry event of the year, happening November 7 at

Grateful Chain

Write down what you’re grateful for and Titusville staff will
create a paper chain to hang throughout the library!

Off the Hook Crochet

Come learn how to crochet or make new friends while taking
your skills to next level.

Medicare 101: How does it work?
🕚 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | Pratt City Branch Library
Seniors and new retirees can listen and learn about Medicare, including updates. They will receive information packets to take home. Snacks will be served.

Friday, November 7
Opening Reception for artists Toni Toney and Sara Dismukes
🕚3:30 p.m. | Central Library's Fourth Floor Gallery, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham
Please join artists Toni Toney and Sara Dismukes at the Birmingham Public Library downtown for a reception celebrating the opening of their art exhibits on display. Toney's exhibition Chalk Dreams Outside the Lines, is on view in the First Floor Gallery at the Central Library through January 23. Toney describes her new exhibition as “a love letter to the kids who dream big; even when the world tries to shrink them.”
Dismukes' exhibition, titled (dis)locate, is on display in the Fourth Floor Gallery. (Dis)locate showcases paintings, cyanotypes, ink drawings, and mixed media pieces that depict neglected manmade structures in natural landscapes. Her show may be viewed through December 19. Chalk Dreams and (dis)locate are about of BPL's Art for Everyone Series, sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

The Birmingham Public Library invites you to take the mic or just soak in the energy at the final Bards & Brews Open Mic of 2025, happening Friday, November 7 at Monday Night Brewing–Social Club near Railroad Park. Thed Weller will serve as host and K. Lovell is the featured poet. Bards & Brews is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts
