Titusville Branch Library Reopens Following Renovation and Renewal

The Birmingham Public Library’s Titusville Branch has reopened its doors following a short renovation that brought new flooring, updated furnishings and other improvements to the neighborhood library.

The Titusville branch, located at 2 6th Avenue SW, closed this summer and reopened to the public on Monday, September 21. The community will celebrate the library branch’s reopening during a Grand Reopening Celebration at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 29.

The celebration will include opening remarks, recognition of special guests, reflections on the history and the significance of the Titusville Branch Library. The reopening celebration will also feature acknowledgments of community partners and supporters, refreshments and an opportunity for guests to tour the newly refreshed library.

The renovation included newly installed flooring, updated furnishings and additional enhancements intended to improve the functionality, appearance, accessibility and overall experience for library patrons. The children's area also received two new tables and chairs.

For Titusville Branch Library Manager Reba Williams-Patton, MLIS, Ph.D., the reopening is about more than a renovated physical space. The improvements mark a new chapter for a branch that has longstanding ties to North Titusville, South Titusville, Woodland Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

Since joining the Titusville Branch, Williams-Patton said she has worked intentionally to change the narrative surrounding what a neighborhood library can represent and accomplish.

“Public libraries are not simply repositories of information; they are civic and social institutions that facilitate access, connection, learning, belonging, opportunity, and community empowerment,” she said.

“The reopening of the Titusville Branch is an important milestone, but it is not the culmination of our work,” Williams-Patton said. “We are not finished. There are still relationships to strengthen, opportunities to create, programs to develop, and new ways for the library to demonstrate its relevance and value to the community.”

The Titusville Branch Grand Reopening Celebration will provide community members, special guests, library supporters and community partners an opportunity to see the improvements firsthand and celebrate the continued role of the library as a community resource.
