Author Talk: Dr. Jim Day of University of Montevallo Discusses His Book "Diamonds in the Rough: A History of Alabama's Cahaba Coal Field"

Birmingham, Ala.—The Birmingham Public Library Archives Department invites you to join Dr. Jim Day as he discusses his book Diamonds in the Rough: A History of Alabama’s Cahaba Coal Fields. Dr. Day is a professor of History and Chair of the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Montevallo.

Dr. Day combines existing written sources with oral accounts and personal recollections, the monograph describes the numerous coal operations in this region—later overshadowed by the rise of the Birmingham District and the larger Warrior Field to the north.

  • Details: Join the Archives and Manuscripts Department for an Author Talk with Dr. Jim Day on his book Diamonds in the Rough: A History of Alabama's Coal Fields. This program is free and open to the public. The talk is held in the Arrington Auditorium, located in the Research Library on the fourth floor. Patrons can access the Research Library by entering the Central Library through the East Building, going up to its third floor, crossing the skywalk and following the corridor, and then going up one more floor of the Research Library.
