Crafts, Conversation, and Community
Monday, September 16 | 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Gather together to learn how to make a craft and enjoy good conversation. We will be making a peacock themed craft at this one. This program happens often, so stay tuned for more crafts.
Beyond Ordinary Book Club
Tuesday, September 17 | 2:00–3:00 p.m.
This is a fun twist on book clubs: instead of everyone reading the same book, attendees simply read, watch, or listen to a media of their choice related to the monthly theme. Our theme this month is "Cozy Mysteries," so come join us for a great discussion. BYOB Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Check out the program's Calendar entry to see all the topics.
Sewing: Decorating Baskets!
Friday, September 20 | 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Join us for our monthly sewing meetups to decorate baskets. Learn how to line a basket with colorful material and soft fillings in preparation for the holiday season.
Crafts, Conversation, and Community
Monday, September 23 | 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Our group Crafts, Conversation, and Community meets again to make a new craft. We will be making a Fall Sign craft at this event. Make this fun decor with us!
Springville Road Library is also participating in the Food for Fines campaign this month! Each year in September for National Library Card Sign-up Month, the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC) hosts the Food for Fines food drive campaign at all JCLC members, including all Birmingham Public Library (BPL) locations. Patrons can waive up to $10.00 in fines from their account for donating shelf-stable foods!
A $1.00 in fines will be waived from the card holder's account for each food item donated throughout September, maxing out at $10.00 in fine forgiveness. In library terms, a fine is the money accrued on a library card holder's account for returning an item late or charged to the account for losing or damaging a library item. Only late fines are eligible for the Food for Fines campaign.
Food donations are accepted at the Circulation Desk, and each library gets to choose where they donate their collections to! All types of shelf-stable foods—baby food, snack foods, side dishes—are accepted except for:
- Expired food
- Donations must have visible and legible expiration dates
- Open food packages
- Damaged items, including rusted and dented cans
Check out the local food banks in your area to see what items your community needs the most.
