BPL Celebrates Birmingham's 150th Anniversary June 4-6 With Free Concert, Poetry Event & Summer Learning Kick-off
The City of Birmingham is celebrating its 150th birthday this year (founded on June 1, 1871).
As part of a June 4-6 weekend celebration of the city's 150th anniversary, the Birmingham Public Library is holding 3 programs, its first live events since the COVID-19 pandemic began 15 months ago. The programs are: Bards & Brews, the library's popular spoken word poetry event; 2021 BPL Summer Learning Kick-off Celebration; and Soulful Sundays Concert on the Lot.

* Bards & Brews Open Mic Poetry, Friday, June 4, 2021, 6:00 p.m. at the Central Library
Bards & Brews, BPL's popular spoken word poetry program will host its first in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic began 15 months ago. On June 4, at 6 pm. join us at the Central location of the Birmingham Public Library, conveniently located at 2100 Park Place, as we commemorate the 150th Anniversary of our beloved city.
Registration is required as seating will be limited (30 only). This event is open to an audience aged 18 and older. Bards & Brews has gained a reputation for unifying Birmingham's art community and giving spoken word artists an outlet to share their talent.
* Birmingham Public Library 2021 Summer Learning Kick-off Celebration, Saturday, June 5, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Central Library parking lot, 2100 Park Place
Activities will feature DJ Lo, food trucks, an outdoor seating area, grab & go craft kits, craft stations, summer reading swag, balloon animals, and sweet treats for you to enjoy. (Audience: All Ages). BPL 2021 Summer Learning will offer 40 programs and 14 craft activities for patrons of all ages.
* Soulful Sundays Concert on the Lot: Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Birmingham, Sunday, June 6, 4:00 p.m. at the Central Library, 2100 Park Place
Join us as we commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the City of Birmingham with a "Soulful Sunday" experience in the parking lot of the Central Library downtown.
Enjoy soulful sounds of Sharron Collins, Logan the Entertainer, and Play Worx Music Group, LLC. We encourage you to bring your own lawn chair, wear a mask and enjoy delicious meals from food trucks as we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the City of Birmingham, theme "Built to Last."
