The Monthly Comic Strip Challenge Returns This February With A New Theme
There are 30 days, 13 hours, 15 minutes, and counting till the deadline for our partnered Comic Strip Challenge with CreateHubs and Create Birmingham! After a break in January, the next prompt for February is love is in the air!
Submit an original comic and you could win money. Winners are placed in three categories with prizes listed as follows: 8–12 win $25, 13–16 win $50, and 17+ win $100.
From the Create Birmingham website:
Tell a story about people falling head over heels for someone special...or the heartbreak of unrequited desire! We want to know what love is...to you!
Using the Four-Panel Comic Strip template, wow the judges with a story that makes them laugh, moves them, or surprises them. This is your story to tell the way you want to.
You can find the Four-Panel Comic Strip and other materials at stations found at the North Birmingham Regional Branch Library and at the Central Library in the Youth Department on the second floor. You can also find the panel on their website.
Here are the rules for submission:
- Submissions should be a .jpeg or .pdf file and can be a scanned in or a photo of the comic strip
- The hard copy may be requested to produce a high-quality scan for publication if selected
- Submissions are only eligible if you use the panel template provided on the website and all fields on the submission form are complete
- There is no fee to submit artwork—submissions will only be shared with the designated judges
- Resubmissions will not be accepted
- Applicants must reside in or attend school in Jefferson County
Comic submissions are due on the first Friday by 11:59 p.m. CST each month. Winners are selected and announced the third week of the month, and there will be up to one winner for each age group. The winner's name and comic will be shared in the Create Birmingham newsletter and social media platforms.
The Comic Strip Challenge is meant to encourage creatives of all ages in the Jefferson County to explore job opportunities and career pathways in creative industries.
