DJ Personalities Of Birmingham Black Radio At Powderly Branch Library

Flyer for the History of Black Radio at the Powderly Branch Library

Powderly Branch Library presents behind the "Mic" featuring Director Bob Friedman of the Birmingham Black Radio Museum. Do you remember back in the day falling asleep, listening to DJ radio personalities and to the sounds of music when it was music?

Waking up late for school and a voice comes blaring over the radio airwaves saying, "Get up, time for school," or the Sunday morning theme song to let you know it was time to get ready for church. Turning the radio dial to AM radio or FM radio stations, like WJLD, WATV, WVUL, WENN, WAGG to hear DJs, such as "Tall Paul," Shelley Stewart, Dave Donnell, Erskine Faush, Ron January, Gary Richardson, Carolyn "Michelle" Shivers just to name a few.

If so, come and join us at the Birmingham Public Library Powderly Branch on April 25, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. to hear the history behind the mic from the renowned radio personality himself, Director Bob Friedman of the Birmingham Black Radio Museum.
