Birmingham, Ala. - Happy holidays from the Birmingham Public Library (BPL)!
Over 80 free holiday programs and activities have been offered at 14 of our libraries across the city throughout December to help patrons of all ages get in a festive, holiday mood. With New Year's Day around the corner, we still have a few programs left.
Beginning today, Monday, December 23, through the New Year, Southside Branch Library, 1814 11th Avenue South, has grab-n-go wreath kits available celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa - all free of charge while supplies last. For more information, call Branch Manager Pamela Jessie or Library Assistant III Gelenda Norman at 205-933-7776.

Getting the Most from Your DNA Ancestry Test
Central Library Computer Center and online via Zoom. Many people will receive DNA test kits as holiday gifts, but most of them will never experience the full array of features and benefits that come with their test results. Paul Boncella provides an overview of DNA testing basics, a guide to setting up your account for full access, a preview of what you can expect to find in the results, and suggestions on how you can optimize your DNA ancestry experience. Attend either in-person or online via Zoom. Registration is required for online attendance only.

Holiday Grab N Go- Th Garland: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa
This year, the festive holidays - Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa - will be celebrated throughout the week of December 23, 2024 through January 1, 2025. What an awesome opportunity this is for families from different cultures to learn more about these holidays and celebrate them as well.
The Southside Branch Library is providing Grab n Go kits to spark your creativity, arouse your curiosity, and add some little holiday decorations for your home or as gifts for others.
Here are our Grab N Go kits:
Hanukkah Gnome Garland
Create these fun little gnomes to string together and add smiles during the Hanukkah festivities. This is a fun craft for the family to do together. Add this craft to the fun and fellowship during this joyous occasion.
Christmas Tree Garland
Create these festive Christmas trees to string together and make a colorful garland to hang on the tree or hang throughout your home. Share them with family and friends to add a special touch to their homes. Another fun craft for kids to create and let their imaginations run free.
Kwanzaa Garland
Adorn your home with hand-crafted decorations symbolizing Kwanzaa. Kids will create the 7 symbols and principles of Kwanzaa an string them together to create a garland. Creating this garland will allow the family to learn the meaning of Kwanzaa and to celebrate the weeklong holiday.

Senior Exercise Class
Is your upcoming 2025 New Year's Resolution to get in shape, learn the latest line dances or improve your skills on the dance floor? Then Titusville Branch's popular Friday line dance classes led by Ms. Mary Williams are for you. Participants will enjoy a new experience at the library through exercise - and make new friends on the dance floor every week.
