Central Library Hosting Word Up! High School Poetry Slam on December 13
What: The Word Up! Festival, is a $5,000 poetry slam featuring high school students from across Birmingham
Who: The Flourish Alabama in partnership with Birmingham Public Library is hosting the 2024 Word Up! Festival. The Flourish Alabama is a local arts and arts education nonprofit organization dedicated to helping artists bloom.
When: Friday, December 13, 2024. Preliminary Rounds begin at 5:00 pm, followed by the Final Round (featuring the top schools and individuals) at 7:00 p.m.
Where: The Central Library, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, Ala. 35203
About the Event: This festival is a culmination of The Flourish's Word Up! Program, a city-wide poetry competition featuring high school students from across Birmingham. The public is invited to attend this free event to cheer on the young student poets. There will be giveaways for the audience, and students will be awarded $5,000 in total for their efforts.
"I'm so excited to see what the students have to offer this year," said Jahman Hill, co-founder of The Flourish Alabama. "We have so many incredible and talented students from across the city. This is a great way for the city of Birmingham to listen to the voices of our youth."
