Birmingham Public Library Expands Wellness Classes with Free 5-Week Chair Yoga Series
Popular response to recent chair yoga class inspires newest fitness classes downtown
BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. — Following
an enthusiastic response to last week's inaugural Chair Yoga with Coach Tru class,
the downtown Birmingham Public Library is expanding its wellness programming
with a free five-week Chair Yoga series on Thursdays beginning July 30 at the
Birmingham Public Library, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL 35203.
The weekly
classes will be held Thursdays at 1 p.m. from July 30 through Aug. 27 and will
be led by Birmingham wellness professional Jaynea "Coach Tru"
Milhouse, a certified Hatha yoga instructor, licensed therapist, certified
Vipassana meditation teacher and life coach. The class will take place on the 2nd floor in the Create205 Lab.
Designed
for beginners, older adults and anyone seeking a low-impact form of exercise,
Chair Yoga combines gentle stretching, breathing techniques, mindfulness and
relaxation to improve both physical and mental well-being. Participants remain
seated or use a chair for support throughout the class, making the program
accessible to adults of all fitness and mobility levels.
The chair
yoga series at Central Library is the latest in a number of free activities and
classes promoting health and wellness being offered at BPL locations across the
city, showcasing how public libraries are evolving into community spaces where
people can learn, connect and improve their well-being.
Milhouse,
founder of H.O.U.S.E. of Tru (Healing Our Universe through Self-Awareness &
Empowerment), helps individuals improve their physical, emotional and
spiritual wellness through yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices. She
earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Miles College and a Master of Social Work
from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Participants
can expect gentle movements designed to improve flexibility, increase balance,
reduce stress and promote relaxation. No previous yoga experience is required.
The Chair
Yoga series is part of Birmingham Public Library's growing commitment to
providing free health and wellness programming throughout its 17 library
locations.
