Countdown Begins to 2026 Local Authors Expo's August 1 Celebration of Alabama Storytellers

 Birmingham, Ala. - The excitement is building for the 2026 Local Authors Expo as the Birmingham Public Library announces the first group of participating authors who will join this year’s celebration of Alabama literature, creativity and storytelling.

Presented by the Tri-County (Alabama) Chapter of The Links, Inc. and the Birmingham Public Library, the annual expo will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. downtown Central Location, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL 35203. Admission is free.

The 2026 Local Authors’ Expo will feature 50 Alabama authors representing fiction, nonfiction and youth literature. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet authors, purchase signed books, receive autographs, discover new titles and learn more about the writing journey directly from the writers themselves.

In addition to meeting local authors, attendees will enjoy keynote presentations from award-winning Birmingham artist, poet and author YOGI DADA and Hope Fortenberry of Rocky Heights Print & Binding. YOGI DADA recently added “author” to her long list of creative accomplishments with the release of “Djembe Chronicles: Humans, Animals & Angels.” The collection features 22 stories inspired by her experiences playing her djembe drum and connecting with people throughout Birmingham parks.

Hope Fortenberry of Rocky Heights Print & Binding will provide aspiring authors with practical information about the book production process, including printing, binding and preparing a manuscript for publication.
