Birmingham, Ala.- Book and DVD lovers in downtown Birmingham, your long wait is finally over. Beginning Monday, September 21, 2020, patrons will be able to begin picking up new checked-out materials via curbside service in the Central Library’s parking lot, 2100 Park Place.

Although the public cannot access BPL buildings yet, libraries remain open 24/7 online and are offering virtual programming on their Facebook pages.

Curbside pickup will be available from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the following BPL locations:

Central Library (2100 Park Place)

Since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic in mid-March 2020, even while its buildings were not accessible to the public, BPL has been providing quality library services and programs virtually 24/7 through its website (www.cobpl.org), social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter, and the BPL library mobile app

How does the BPL curbside pickup process work?

Patrons may call any of BPL’s 19 libraries to place a hold. They will have the option to select the Central Library (205-226-3600) or one of the four regional libraries to pick up the materials: Avondale Library (205-226-4000); Five Points West Library (205-226-4013); North Birmingham Library (205-226-4025); and Springville Road Library (205-226-4081).

Patrons may also place holds online at www.cobpl.org or through the BPL mobile app. Patrons will be contacted when their items are ready to be picked up. They may then retrieve their materials at a designated library. Once the patrons arrive at the library, patrons will call to alert the library they are in the parking lot.

A library staff member will check out the materials, place the items in a bag with the patron’s name on it, and deliver the bag to a designated table located outside the library doors. Once the library staff member is safely back inside, BPL will let patrons know when to leave their vehicle and pick up their items outside. When coming to drop off items, all library materials being returned must be placed in the library book drops.

For the safety of everyone involved, returned materials will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours, and will take several days to be cleared from your account. No late fees will be charged.
