Looking for Deals? BPL Friends Bookstore Is Open for Business

The BPL Friends Bookstore has reopened inside the Central Library in downtown Birmingham.

Book lovers, rejoice. 

The BPL Friends Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Central Library in downtown Birmingham, is back open and has plenty of deals available.

After receiving several book donations, BPL Friends Bookstore currently has a $12 fill-a-bag sale going on. There is a 10- item media limit per bag. Merchandise with yellow tags is not included. Proceeds help the Friends Foundation of the Birmingham Public Library Friends Foundation support all 18 BPL locations.

 The BPL Friends Bookstore held a soft opening on February 8, 2021, and is limiting the number of customers to appointment only due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The Birmingham Public Library requires a face mask to be worn at all times.

The bookstore is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled by emailing the Friends Bookstore at friendsbookstore@cobpl.org. 

Items available for purchase include a variety of sci-fi, fiction, non-fiction and now text books for virtual or home school help (science and math). Media items such as audio books, CDs, and DVDs are also on sale.

Make your appointment soon! Appointments will be made on the hour for 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 noon and 1 p.m. Customers will be able to shop until 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. during each appointment time. 

There will be a 15-minute window between appointments to allow for any necessary Covid-19 precautions. Two customers will be allowed in the bookstore at each appointment time to allow for appropriate social distancing. 

All appointments will be confirmed by email and the customer will receive a confirmation number for their appointment.

Customers should check in with the either the Citizen’s Services desk or the Circulation desk on the first floor at the Central Library when they arrive. A staff member at the desk will notify the Bookstore of your arrival. 

Please make sure that you have your confirmation number with you for your appointment time.
