Women's History Month author spotlight: Brenda Jackson

By Mary Merchant | Ensley Library

Keeping in mind that March is Women's History Month, I decided to offer a little background information on one of my favorite romance authors, Brenda Jackson.

I will also review one of her latest books, The Wife He Needs.

Brenda Jackson is an African American native of Jacksonville, Florida. She is a graduate of William M. Raines High School. Brenda earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Jacksonville University.

In addition to being an author, Brenda worked 37 years in management for a major insurance company before retiring a few years ago. She married her school sweetheart, Gerald, on July 8, 1972, and they have two sons, Gerald Jr. and Brandon.

Although Brenda began writing in eighth grade, her professional writing career did not began until adulthood in 1994 when she signed on with publisher Kensington Arabesque. Over the years, she has received numerous awards and made many trailblazing accomplishments.

Brenda is the first African American romance author to make USA Today’s Bestsellers List and the New York Times Bestseller’s List for the series romance genre. You can learn more about her awards and accomplishments on her website www.brendajackson.net.

Brenda Jackson has published more than 125 novels and novellas. She is noted for writing family saga series. Some of the families included in her books are the Madaris, Bennetts, Westmorelands, Montgomerys, Masters, Savoys, Steeles, and the Grangers.

I have read all of the Westmoreland family titles as well as some of the others, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed them. Her latest work, The Wife He Needs, is part of her new Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws series.

In this book, readers are able to accompany Garth Outlaw and Regan Fairchild on their journey from Fairbanks, Alaska to Santa Cruz, Spain for a two-week vacation. Garth is a former marine and talented CEO of the family business, Outlaw Freight Lines.

Regan is also a multi-talented young lady. She is the corporate pilot for this company and she also serves as Garth’s personal chauffeur and escort for business functions as needed. Although Garth is technically Regan’s employer, the two share a special bond and secret attraction for one another.

Readers are able to follow them on this excursion and watch the relationship transform from one between two friends to materialize into a romantic bond between soulmates.

I personally invite all romance lovers to read this book as well as any of her other titles and I’m sure that you too will become Brenda Jackson fans.

A list of her romance titles as well as her other works such as movies and etc. can be found on www.brendajackson.net.

Also, many of her books can be found at the Birmingham Public Library

Enjoy!
