Two Women-Owned Food Trucks Spotlighted At Tomorrow's Food Truck Summer Roundup, Thurs, July 28

A cartoon food truck is open for business on the flyer of the BPL's Food Truck Summer Roundup.

This Thursday, July 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Birmingham Public Library welcomes The Dirty Red and NOLA-ICE to its Summer Food Truck Roundup. Tickle your taste buds with Chef Nelesha Dale's savory gourmet street food. Then treat yourself (and your dog!) to Kelli Caulfield's authentic New Orleans-style snoballs. Both of the featured food trucks at tomorrow's event are women-owned, which is all the more reason to join us!

The Dirty Red gets its name from Chef Nelesha Dale's childhood nickname, but her epicurean flair comes from long years of experience and a degree from the Culinary Institute at Jefferson State Community College.

A black and red food truck is parked under the shade of a tree on a bright day. There is a light filter over the photo, giving it a slight blue tint. The food truck features realistic images of food and says "Dirty Red" across it.

Chef Dale's best-selling item is her handmade cheeseburger. What makes her cheeseburger so special? According to an article published in the Birmingham Times, it's

"Dale's secret spice blend and sauce, as well as extra toppings like sautéed green pepper and onions."

Another entrée on The Dirty Red's menu is the eponymous "Dirty Wrap"—chopped beef or chicken wrapped up with extra fixings in a "grilled garlic herb tortilla." Sound enticing? For dessert, check out Chef Dale's ambrosial "Mini Loaf Lemon Pound Cake."

A line of kids stand out front and huddled around the window a bright yellow food truck. The food truck says "NOLA-ICE" on it and features illustrations of beads and jazz musicians.

NOLA-ICE will be a welcome addition to tomorrow's event, especially if the current heat trend continues, as is predicted. It is late July in the South, after all. NOLA-Ice is owned by native New Orleanian Kelli Caulfield, so her shaved ice is the real deal.

NOLA-ICE serves up a bevy of original flavors, and clients have the option of topping their snoballs with NOLA-ICE's specialty ice cream. Caulfield's shaved ice truck stands out from the crowd with its "Puppy Snoballs," which are just what they sound like—snoballs for your sweet canine friends. They come in chicken and beef flavors. Although we don't recommend bringing your dogs out into the heat for very long, we certainly suggest making a quick stop and buying a snoball for yourself and your hound!

We hope to see you for lunch at the Central Library this Thursday, July 28!
